Tusheti is hidden behind the 2,900 m Abano Pass, one of the most dramatic mountain roads in the country and only open for a few months a year. On the far side is a region that feels centuries removed — defensive stone towers, shingle-roofed villages and a shepherd culture still tied to the seasons.
The protected area holds eleven marked trails from one to six days, linking villages like Omalo, Shenako and Dartlo. It is prime country for hiking, horse riding and birdwatching, and famous for Tushetian cheese and folk festivals.
